quilts....and a craft...its an update!

I made this mini quilt for my daughters birthday. Me husband made a replica bed of hers in obviously a tiny version and I felt it needed a cute quilt too!! She loves her Cabbage Patch Dolls, so she will love this gift for her birthday!! I used tiny flower prints and a cream colored fabric in a 9 patch design. I also used one of her old shirts I loved that no longer fits her..It had a tiny flower print on it as well. I hope she will give it to her daughter someday.

I also made this large quilt for a client. It was for her parents 50th anniversary. I embroidered all of the kids, and grandkids and great grandkids names on the leaves..appliqued the tree first, then pieced the rest of the quilt.. I picked all of the fabric out as well. I loved this border fabric and chose my color around it. Since I was getting paid for this quilt, I could buy the best fabric and not worry about price.. I got most of it at a quit shop in Sun City.

Also I took this picture of the many quilts I have been given from my grandma.. baby quilts, wedding and graduation, big kid quilts, wall hangings...

Heres a small craft... very easy pin cushion.. We saw them at a quilt show and decided to make some for ourselves.. Its just a canning jar (you could use any size) with inside lid and ring. You hot glue your batting covered with fabric to the inside lid. Then put whatever you want in the jar for decoration (we used antique spools of thread and buttons of my great grandmas, but you could put anything in there) The we put the 2 lids together and screw them on and there you go! cute pin cushon!!

and since this is quilts and crafts, I have a super easy and cute craft.. You know when you go to the home depot and your kids always wants to get paint cards (okay well I dont know if your kids does, but mine does!!) anyway, I got 2 of each color I wanted, matted them on cardstock then laminated them.. there you go, a quick, very cheap memory game!! Im sending mine to a friend, but they would be great for your kids, or as gifts.. Also I thought if you printed out wallets of family pictures, what a fun memory game that would be for your family, or as a gift!! just matte then laminate! cute right??

a few new quilts....

I bought this fabric in Washington..I really loved the colors and it matches my newly painted play room..I backed it with super soft fabric to make is extra cozy!! I love it!
I actually made the quilt top, then mailed it to a friend to be quilted on her longarm machine... She does a great job!

This is a cheater quilt..The whole middle is 1 piece of fabric, but I really liked it so, I bought it! So I trimmed the middle piece, and added a border that I loved as well..Its tiny flowers.. The corner blocks are actually hand appliqued antique octagon pieces..Not sure the fancy name for them, but my grandma gave me them, so I decided to add them to the simple quilt for some extra charm..This is backed with Minky.. lovely and soft!

I love it and it doesnt take up any floor space..but gives a cute and organized way to hold all of out Wii stuff! and movies upstairs!

Total cost.......Pallet (free at Frys!!).....wood for the bottom of the shelves ($5, although you could get 2 pallets and use the wood from 1 for that..so it would really be free!)...and paint ($5)..... so...10 buck.. not too bad:)

Onsies..........

Super easy! I love how they turned out.I made them for a friend and wish I had a little baby to put a few on! ha.. well no chance in that happening so maybe I'll make a few T-shirts for my little girl!!

I almost did a tutorial.. but I didnt have time..
SO.. here you go..
  • Get cut outs from online, of shapes you want..
  • Choose fabrics you like
  • iron on Heat & Bond (I get mine from Wal-mart) on the back..
  • Then trace your shapes on the back and cut them out of the fabric..
  • Peel off the backing of the heat and bond on your fabric and iron onto the onsie..
  • Stitch around the edges
  • add and extras (stems, bows, buttons)....
Simple as that!!

Warning: these pictures have terrible lighting..but Im too lazy to edit them..look, you're lucky you're getting a post okay?!

I have not done much quilting lately..but when we knew we were going to Washington I just HAD to throw something together to quilt on my grandmas machine!! So I made this quilt top.. While I was there I found this matching border fabric..which allowed me to make my quilt much bigger.. Awesome!! I really like how I quilted it:) and I am glad its done!!

I also re-did my silhouette pictures..I didnt like how they were printing on paper, so I decided to make them with fabric..I love them much more now:) Here they are on the wall...

I also had this large frame that I liked...and a bunch of these index cards.. They are scriptures and sayings that I just thought were very clever and something I wanted up in my house for my kids to see...SO I painted the frame white, then made it a magnet board..I actually used metal tiles that were 98 cents at Home Depot.. It was cheaper than buying a large sheet at $22, then having to cut it the right size and waste the extra.. So anyway I used 12 sheets and tacked them in with short tacks, then spray painted the whole thing. You could also use a glue if you chose to, but since this magnet board is more for display, I wasnt worried about it.

Re-do's

Well my new favorite blog is Better After...Its so fun!! Its a blog that shows lots of re do projects..before and after..Its crazy to see the easy and quick changes you can make to things...for a totally different look..SO I have decided to share a few of my recent re-do projects!

Frames...I found these at Goodwill..

I liked the shapes of them so I just spray painted them and did a black glaze finish.....All of the frames on this wall are from Goodwill....The oval frame..I LOVE..It was a mirror..and now I am kicking myself because I didnt want the mirror..wish I would have saved that!!! .okay so if you know our family you can see that I need a few more frames!! You just have to keep checking the thrift stores..:) I'll buy them when I can find them cheap...

I bought these blocks while on vacation..I really liked the border detail.. I went to use them at a photoshoot and it just wasn't working for me..The 3 colors didnt work well and were just boring...There is only 1 block for each letter, so in a name the colors double.

.anyway I wanted some blocks like these that I found on Etsy...But did not want to pay SO much..They were $30 for 6 blocks!!! ya, not happening!! .I talked to my husband and tried to get him to make me some..after seeing his non-excitement I decided maybe i could re-do these! (Total cost of blocks and spray paint $20!!and I have 26 blocks!! not just 6)

SO I re-did these..I love them:) I cant wait to use them in a photoshoot!!! What a difference right?..Think vintage..country..little kiddo in the grass or by a rustic building...CUTE!

AllI did was spray paint them...Then I sanded the corners a little bit to help the glaze emphasize the edges a bit..Then I used an antiquing glaze..I painted the top of the block then wiped away the excess glaze...
Here they are in my photoshoot.... cute!

Okay so I saw this little vanity stool for $7...I fought myself on its potential...and decided to buy it... Isnt it ugly!!

I painted it white...and reupholstered the seat..adorable right???

And lastly...I found these at goodwill too. They were 3.99..No glass..but perfect for what I wanted..I painted the frame..and added a piece of sheet metal that I had in the garage..scrap from my magnet board ..Painted that and now my little girl has a cute magnet board for her room!

A chair..and a quilt............

Well I found this chair super cheap at a local thrift store..I like the old look to it.. but I knew right away that the seat was not gonna work for me..the print..yuck! Just not cute...... but it was sturdy and in great condition (for an old chair) also, the seat wasnt even attached...so it was super easy to see how to redo the fabric..
I got it for under $15.... then went to Joanns to look for the fabric..now that was hard..I knew I wanted something light. I found this greenish teal color and loved it! I got it for 40% off too!! So it cost me $6 for the fabric to recover it!
It doesnt look a ton different but I really like it now!

Here is my new quilt for my bed. I bought the fabric a few years ago...and I finally finished it! I took the top to Washington with me and quilted it on my grandmas machine... I love it!
The squares were easy..the flowers were a lot more work..

Block pictures............

I learned how to Modge Podge from some ladies from church..and now I'm loving it...My husband cute these blocks out then nail and glues them together....Then I cut my pictures out and put them on..I love it...Guess who is going to be making more of these??!!!

I finished a quilt for my bed..I just need to take pictures and post them..I love it so much and it took me along time of start adn stop...to finally get it done!
